Another mention in the Tallahassee Democrat, 6 June 2006. Another step toward legendary status for the event.
Rosen gives to sport that gave her so much

It's common knowledge that in volunteer-dependent organizations a few altruists typically tote the load for everybody else. Running clubs certainly work this way. Moreover, the speediest members of most running clubs are even less likely than the also-rans to tithe time or labor for club functions. This is understandable; eschewing volunteer work to focus on themselves likely keeps some top talents in the winner's circle.

Then there's Sheryl Rosen. As a cross-country runner for Marianna High School, Rosen was often near the front of the pack. A creditable 19:07 for three miles earned her a trip to the state cross-country meet in 2001, where she placed a respectable 13th in the Class 2A final.

Rosen continued training on her own while attending the University of Florida. She obviously knew what she was doing: recent age group wins in the Palace Saloon 5K (19:20) and Rose City 10K (38:58) have established Rosen as one of the emerging young stars of our local running scene.

Given Rosen's rising success, her youth, and her full-time job as a communications specialist with Ron Sachs Communications, one would fully expect Rosen to guard her limited free time, keeping anything off her slate that could intrude upon her own running. And one would be fully mistaken.

Two weeks after Rosen attended her first Gulf Winds Track Club Tuesday Intervals session, she was already asking about helping out with area events. She dutifully showed up at high school track competitions, offering able assistance at district and regional championships this spring. Her interest in youth running thus piqued, Rosen set about arranging for speakers to address youth runners on a regular basis over the summer. Rosen's goal is to get information to the kids about training, racing, nutrition, injury prevention and running at the college level. In keeping with her volunteer spirit, Rosen is making these talks free to the community.

The Running Youth Education sessions will be conducted on Thursdays in June and July, immediately prior to the GWTC/TPRD Community Track Meets. Each talk will begin promptly at 6 p.m. at the Maclay School Track, and end by 6:30 p.m. so that youngsters may warm up for the 7 p.m. start of the weekly meets.
